There is no doubt that sport can always throw up some odd results, and undoubtedly some very odd situations.
The Dubai Super League match between ‘Wombats – Yellow’ and Emirates NBD CC was no exception. With the Exiles needing a Wombats win to cement their place in the play-offs for the Dubai Super League Cup competition, the largest cricket club in Dubai could only manage to field 9 players at the Sevens Stadium and were promptly humiliated by Emirates NBD CC.
Bowled out for 79, 79 for 8 to be exact, 9 and 10 were either lost somewhere on the E66 or had more pressing engagements than to play cricket with their teammates. Emirates NBD came into bat with a simple enough run chase and duly set about it with great aplomb.
80 runs off just 47 balls and Emirates NBD CC had blasted their way into the play-offs. The Wombats bowling attack was non existent. Aashir Hasnain Jafri beaten away for 12 runs off just one over, Ghanim Feroz, 3 overs bowled, 36 runs scored. If the plan was to get home as quickly as possible for an early tea, then letting the opposition average more than 1.5 runs off every ball is certainly a good way to go about it.

As for the Exiles, they can now look forward to the Super League Plate Competition and will be one of the favourites to lift that piece of silveware.
